KC 4.0 Anything to look out for?
|
To All,
We just received KC 4.0 last week. It is now in the hands of our IS/IT group undergoing what they call "testing". It will be a will before I get to load it. Once that happens, is there anything special that we need to look out for? I would definitely liketo benefit from the experience of others! My old boss used to tell me that "Experience is the best teacher --- she just costs too much!"

Wasn't that supposed to be fixed with a patch?
By the way is that patch out yet?

That will be good for us. We do a lot of sheetmetal parts. The old bend routine was diaappointing.

KC 4.0.2 Wireframe is faceted ...
|
I am using KC 4.0.2. I have a complex model which I rendered FLAT SHADED. Now, the highly faceted wires are still there. How do I get rid of the extreaneous facets and wires and return the model to the normal edges, tangent lines, etc.?

Bursting instances
|
Sometimes, the HLR or HLR-dashed Does not completely or corrrect do the job. Bursting allows you to clean up the view.
Another reason has cropped up. KC 4.0.2 has a bug in the intance auto align routine. Some instances just will not auto align correctly. Bursting allows you to touch the geometry so you can move it to the correct location.
As a general rule, I try to keep from bursting instances. Bursting them is usually a last resort.

I just did a quick check and compared CK19.01 to KC4.0.2.
I created a 1"Ø rod 100" long centered at the origin.
For KC4.0.2
Rx=28.8685959728, Ry=28.8685959703, Rz=.353553493763
For CK19.01
Rx=28.868596, Ry=28.868596, Rz=.35355339
The only difference I got was in the 6th digit of the Rz values. The others were different becasue CK 19.01 truncates to 6 decimal places. If I had to guess, I would think that this is a rounding error of some sort.
Outside of school, I've never met anyone that actually that actually had a use for the Radius of Gyration since it relates to the rotaional inertia of an object about an axis. Do you use this value in your work? Just curious ...

Peter,
I guess you do need that value to be correct! As it currently exists, KC does not do assemblies well. It assumes the assembly is homogenous w.r.t. material. We have asked them to fix this. Note, I'm am not holding my breath!
